AMNA'S STORY

Amna’s story is one of determination, power, and bravery. She is known for being a pioneering sports personality from the UAE who quit her job in journalism to pursue sports full-time to create positive impact in the Middle East.

She since has not only broken barriers for herself and changed the narrative for women in sports in her country — She was the first GCC national National to ever compete at the Reebok Crossfit Asia Regionals in 2012. Her love for sports then led her to pursue Olympic Weightlifting with an aim to reach the 2016 Rio Olympics. In April 2016, she was part of the UAE national Weightlifting team that competed at the Olympic Qualifier in Uzbekistan which earned them one quota for the Olympics. Unfortunately, due to injuries she was unable to continue the journey.

Amna not only left a mark on the platform; she also helped the giant brand Nike develop the Nike Pro Hijab, after they consulted her during a historic visit to Nike HQ in Portland in 2016. It was later released in 2017. Other noteworthy collaborations with Nike, Amna was the first Emirati individual female athlete sponsored by Nike, also, first Arab to open a 10K We Run Race in Dubai in 2015 and was the first global woman to be featured in Nike’s documentary series, Inner Strength.
